AB Cup 2009 A-Pulje
BAGSVÆRD BBK(1) ARE THE CHAMPIONS
A prestige tournament organised by our big brother neighbour club AB, that we nearly decided to give up early and go home from early. With some teams pulling out at the 11th hour the organising and re-organising was close to being a total fiasco for our year group 2000. Lucky for us we had Britt (Simon’s mother) who with some cool handling and co-ordination with possibly the only other person with any organisation sense in AB, was able to work out a modified "new" program that saved the day for everyone involved. In fact after Simons mother stepped in everything worked like a Swiss watch. (Tusind tak Britt).
If I remember correctly, last year, Britt also made sure that all the boys received trophies, medals and T-shirts for our team who ended in 5th place last year. (They were meant only for the gold, silver and bronze winners)
Now we had some tough games in front of us which we really wanted to play, not least of all, we had a chance to play against our SBU rivals Allerød who stole all point from us in the league with the last kick of the ball. Allerød will also possibly end the SBU division 1 group 1 as Champions because of that last kick of the ball. With two teams in this AB Cup A-Pulje we would meet firstly Allerød 2. (Allerød also have 2 teams in the SBU division 1 groups).
It was of no consequence if they called themselves Allerød 1 or 2 as we would come to meet both of their teams in this Cup tournament.
We would also meet Espergærde (again). Who until three weeks ago had not been beaten by anyone in 22 games, but then they met Bagsværd in the SBU and lost that record. Then again we met them at Nørhalne and if they hoped to revenge us there, they would have to wait again as we easily controlled that game also, against a very tired Espergærde although we won only by 1 v 0 we had beaten them again.
(Mon ikke hvis de ikke er træt af den navn Bagværd).
Moral appears to have fallen with these results as they unexpectedly lost the evening before to BSV). Could they bounce back!
Allerød 1 would also like to keep us in our place, under them as in the SBU league division 1 group 1 could they do it?
Skoveshoved an unknown quantity to me in this year group seemed to have done unexpectedly well in their preliminary group and could be the team to steal the AB Cup from all the other more well known teams.
Allerød(2) 1 v 3 BBK(1)
Good pressure and good play by us and a terrible goalkeeper fumble by Allerøds, otherwise brilliant goalkeeper and we took a first half lead, after Thomas Curtis tapped the ball into the net from a gift wrapped goalkeeper drop.
After this it was one way traffic towards Allerøds goal, but it was a nightmare unfolding before my eyes as we burned one chance after another and another.
Allerøds goalkeeper took everything we could throw at him. You can guess what happened next? One strong run unchallenged and suddenly it was 1 v 1 as Allerød pulled a magic rabbit out of the hat.
The whole of the second half continued in the same manner, and when I seen the referee reach for his whistle I could not believe we would have to share the points. But he changed his mind, he had not blown full time,. Thirty seconds later and Thomas Curtis placed a good hard shot into the long corner and the well earned victory was home. Unbelievably before the referee whistled we had the ball in Allerød (2) s net again, as Thomas Joe set his sights correctly on the goal this time, after missing a double hat trick of chances throughout the game. These children are trying to give me a heart attack. Result 1 v 3
Man of the match : Thomas Curtis (For finding the net twice)
Espergærde 0 v 1
BBK(1)
Espergærde came after us with all guns blazing determined to wipe us of the face of the earth, and in the initial opening play we nearly lost our nerve as we were pressed back under Espergærde tornado start. BBK(1) managed to slowly but surely get a foot hold in the game. We came back so well that by the time Oliver Angus planted the ball firmly into the long corner from right to left and 20 metres out, no one could deny we earned it.
It was visually clear now that Espergærde, s tornado had fizzled out to a light breeze, (prudt) they suddenly looked like an ordinary team with a mini confidence crisis to sort out.
Espergærde offered only one more dangerous attack in the 2nd half that Simon saved to ensure we had our well deserved victory. Another win by only a single goal was a little bit compliments to Espergærde.
Although Espergærdes trainer commented that he thought we "played better in the SBU than here today", I am satisfied that we deserved this 3rd victory in 3 weeks over them. We are not facing any confidence crisis. Result 0 v 1
BBK(1)
Man of the Match
: Simon (For his save in the 2nd half)
Allerød (1) 0 v 4 BBK(1)
Allerød(1) possibly SBU division 1 group 1 Champions spring 2009, never had a chance in this game as BBK(1) played possibly their best game in a year. It was as if all the instructions I have drilled in to the defence and midfield about their relation to each other, who should mark who, and when they should hand over that responsibility to another (Zone opdækkning) fell in to place,. With the players I had here today. (Two other of my regular defence players were not here today) the other 2 regulars Magnus and Mads, working with the sweeper Emil and Thomas Joe, Thomas Curtis and Oliver over midfield and Frederik in attack were superb today.
From the start and 5 seconds into the game Oliver slipped the ball to Thomas Curtis who had already moved forwards, a little dribble, adjustment and well placed shot and Allerød (1) were already looking at defeat. The next well deserved goal came from a hard working Oliver Angus who turned and shot at a running ball with his left foot, it surprised the Allerød (1) goalkeeper and crept in over the goal line. Oliver now put the game out of Allerød (1) s reach with a second goal to 0 v 3. Oliver was not finished yet as another good shot was palmed away only to fall to a needle sharp Thomas Curtis who followed up after and hit the rebound in over the line from 1 metre.
Result 0 v 4 BBK (1)
The remainder of the game was pure showmanship from Bagsværd who played cat and mouse with a totally outclassed Allerød (1).
Allerøds leaders must be scratching their heads and wondering how they beat us in the SBU league (I am)....
(I,m playing to the home audience here Allerød ... well done on your success in the SBU)
Man of the Match
: Magnus (For his more calm control over his own play)
Skoveshoved 1 v 2
BBK (1)
Only one team stood in our way to lift the A- Pulje AB Cup 2009.
Skoveshoved a team we have not met in any competitions (That I can remember) were an unknown quantity to me in this year 2000 group. Although I know the club as a technically good ball playing club especially with the year 96 teams I encounter.
It was a pleasure to see that our earlier very good play against Allerød was not just a one off game as we continued the very good zone marking in to this game. We however didn’t get such any early goal as in the last game, but our sharp wing player Thomas Curtis was today’s tournament player with another pair of good goals to give himself a total of 5 goals in 4 games.
Skovshoved were rare visitors in our goal area but kept the excitement and tension all the way to the Final whistle, especially after scoring from a penalty as Oliver made a full power tackle in our goal area.
Skoveshoved had more to offer than Allerød (1) but were again relatively easily kept under control, but at 1 v 2 they always had a chance. There was tension to the last, and I accepted that Skoveshoved and us should meet again for a trainings game, as they feel themselves they were up with the play.
Man of the Match : Mads (For his fighter spirit over a longer period)
Now we could lift the trophy and listen to a bit of my favourite music played in front of the club house podium, WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS by Freddy. The boys celebrated their medals, glass tankards, and winner AB Cup T-shirts.
I was delighted for the boys to end our spring 2009 season on such a positive note and for them to get a reward and recognition for the very good team they are.
Well
done
boys
